Individual TCTSY sessions
No intervention that takes power away from the survivor can possibly foster her recovery; no matter how much it appears to be in her immediate best interest
- Judith Herman
What can you expect from an individual TCTSY session?
No yoga experience is necessary. Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is a unique yoga therapy that supports your body to feel safe and connected, and may also show you how to recognise and modulate arousal that is felt in your body. The focus of each session is to raise your awareness of your body through noticing your physical sensations which may be particularly helpful if you have a history of complex trauma, anxiety or dissociation. In each session I will offer you a series of yoga forms and movements to practice. I will invite you to choose and explore these forms as an opportunity to notice physical sensations in your body. I will give variations of each yoga form and you can choose as to how you would like to interact with your body and the yoga forms during these sessions. You are in charge of how you move your body and also have the choice not to practice a yoga form. I will be facilitating and practicing the yoga forms with you.
Sessions are 45 minutes and are available in my office in Mount Lawley or on SKYPE/ZOOM depending on your preferences. The session may also include processing of any issues that may arise if you would like.
How is this different from Regular Yoga?
Unlike many regular yoga classes, I do not use physical, hands-on adjustments to change the way you hold your physical form. TCTSY does not place emphasis on the external expression or alignment of your yoga form, rather the focus is on your internal experience of your form or movement. You are in charge of how you want to move based on your felt sense of your own body.
How does TCTSY support people who have a sense of disconnection with themselves or their body, or who live with complex trauma?
TCTSY is part of a holistic approach to your healing and is specifically designed to complement traditional talk therapies by supporting your healing and recovery through -
Restoring a sense of control and personal safety over your life
Connecting with your body in a safe way
Learning ways to calm down and self regulate
Practicing making choices and presenting opportunities to take effective action
Reduce activation of the sympathetic nervous system, muscle tension and blood pressure.
Improving your emotional regulation and stability
Cultivating a more positive relationship to yourself, to your body and to others
