Training Workshops

Be kind to yourself as you proceed along this journey. This kindness, in itself, is a means of awakening the spark of love within you and helping others to discover that spark within themselves

- Tsoknyi Rinpoche

Who we are?

Kelly Hefferon and I come together as Peaceful Embodiment and draw on decades of collective knowledge and experience in traditional and contemporary yoga, trauma-sensitive yoga, social justice, and somatic and mindfulness therapies.

We are using the tools of yoga, mindfulness, science and social justice as foundational practices of self-awareness and self-accountability. Our trainings are dedicated to supporting people in becoming conscious and effective community leaders in their field. This accountability is vital to transforming our world into a place where we prioritise collective care and well-being for all.

Half-day trauma sensitive yoga training

This training is based on the TCTSY research by founder David Emerson in clinical consultation with Bessel Van Der Kolk. This training is designed to support organisations and teams to integrate trauma-informed skills into their existing practice. This training is also suitable for yoga communities as part of a yoga teacher training module.

Over the course of the half day you will learn -

  • Introduction to trauma theory, attachment theory and Neuroscience

  • The five core principles of the TCTSY approach

  • How to apply these principles of TCTSY to your work and classes

  • How to create trauma-informed spaces for your students and clients

  • You will also have plenty of opportunity during the workshop to practice using trauma sensitive principles

Please note Unless you have prior training and qualification in the field of trauma and mental health, this training is intended to be introductory only. This course is not intended to equip you with adequate skills to go on to facilitate specialised trauma-sensitive yoga programs. However, the training will provide a deeper understanding with which to infuse trauma-sensitive yoga principles into existing professional practices.

One-day vicarious trauma & self-care workshop

Professionals working with people who have experienced trauma and adverse life experiences will undoubtedly be personally affected by hearing about these traumatic events, and by witnessing the considerable impact and distress they can cause. Working with people who have experienced profound trauma and injustice is complex. It can be experienced as a privilege, bringing an added sense of connection, value and meaning to our lives. However, it can also become personally draining, desensitising, and at times overwhelming. Over the course of the day you will learn

  • What vicarious trauma is

  • The effects and impact vicarious trauma has on you and your workplace

  • Caring practices to prioritise your wellbeing and commitment to doing your important work

  • Develop your own self-care plan

  • Powerful strategies that allow you to feel more ease and enjoyment in your life, whilst gently increasing physical strength, flexibility, and overall sense of wellbeing
